In my passport photo, can I wear sunglasses, glasses, or tinted glasses?
For your passport photo, you will need to remove them.
A doctor's note is required if you cannot remove your glasses for medical reasons.
Can jewelry be worn in passport photos?
It is okay to wear jewelry and facial piercings if they don't cover your face. For passport purposes, a permanent tattoo is also acceptable.
In what way should I pose for my photo?
Keeping your head centered in the frame and not tilted, smile naturally or display a neutral expression.
In my photo, can I wear a hat or headcover?
A hat or head covering may be worn, but you must provide a signed statement stating that the hat or head covering is a part of recognized, traditional religious attire frequently worn or required in public, or a signed statement that the item is used regularly for medical purposes by a physician.
A hat or head covering cannot obscure your hairline or cast shadows on your face, and your entire face must be visible.
Can I smile in my passport photo?
A natural, unexaggerated smile is fine.
Can I take a passport photo wearing a uniform?
Uniforms, clothing that resembles uniforms, and camouflage clothing are prohibited.
My passport photo has red-eye. Can it be removed?
You cannot remove it digitally. It is necessary to submit a new photo without red eye.
Do you have any tips for taking pictures of babies or toddlers?
No other person should be in the photo if it is a picture of your baby or toddler.
Lay your baby on his or her back on a flat surface (you don't have to worry about the background; our website will remove it). When taking a picture of your baby from above, be sure the face is not shadowed. Also, you may find it helpful to take a picture of your child in the car seat.
Make use of your camera's burst mode to take as many photos as possible.
Can the eye of my child be closed in the passport photo?
A partially closed eye or a completely closed eye is acceptable for an infant. Both eyes must be open for all other children.
Do I need to take a new photo if my appearance has changed (growing a beard, dyeing my hair)?
It is only necessary to take a new photo if your appearance has changed substantially. Changing your hair color or growing a beard are not significant changes. A new passport is not necessary if you can be identified by the photo in your current passport.
A new passport may be required if you:
Have undergone significant facial surgery or trauma
Increased or decreased the number of/size of facial piercings or tattoos
Have lost or gained a significant amount of weight
Transformed from one gender to another
If your child's appearance has changed due to natural aging, you do not need to apply for a new passport.
I am unsure if my photo meets the requirements. What should I do?

Make sure someone takes your passport photo for you. Selfies are not accepted. Make use of your tripod if you have one. By using a tripod, you will be able to keep the camera level and steady. Ideally, the person should be around 1 meter away from the camera.
Face a bright window or the door when taking a photo. In this way, shadows can be avoided on the face and in the background. It is essential that the face is evenly lit. Ensure that the face is free of shadows and glares.
Note: You do not need to worry about the background, since our online passport photo generator will automatically do it for you.
Uniforms should not be worn. Put on regular street clothes for your photo.
Eyeglasses should not be worn. You should remove any sunglasses, tinted glasses, or glasses that you wear if you are taking a passport photo.
Ensure that your face is fully visible. Make sure your hair doesn't cover your face or obscure your eyes. In the case of very long bangs covering your eyebrows, pin them back with bobby pins. Although it's better to show your ears as well, that won't stop your photo from being accepted.
Passport photos don't allow hats unless they're religious headgear such as a headscarf or yarmulke.
Face the camera straight on and look straight at it. Avoid tilting or rotating the head.
It is important that the shoulders are visible, and there should be enough space around the head to crop the picture.
Make sure the camera is at the same level as the head.
It's okay to smile in your passport photo, but the government prefers you to have a neutral facial expression.
Under the new international passport rules, it is usually not acceptable to smile or have your mouth open.
